The Blessed J. Matulaitis social center Vilnius, Lithuania Volunteer opportunity: Join Us in Creating Everyday Joy
Step into a community where people with intellectual disabilities and their families are truly at the heart of it all. As a volunteer, you’ll share life’s everyday joys—cooking a meal together, going on a shopping trip, creating something beautiful—and celebrate special moments at the theatre, a basketball game, or over a cup of coffee. Each day ends with laughter, reflection, and the warmth of genuine connection. Here, you’re more than a volunteer—you’re a friend, a teammate, and an essential part of a caring family. Your presence brings light, your ideas spark change, and your energy helps create a space full of joy and belonging. Volunteering here isn’t just about giving your time—it’s about discovering new perspectives, growing together, and becoming part of something truly meaningful. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements *Travel expenses from your home country to Lithuania and back are covered, with reimbursement depending on the distance. *Accommodation in a comfortable shared apartment with other volunteers. Private room for each volunteer. Shared kitchen, bathroom, and common spaces to encourage community living. All utilities (electricity, water, heating, internet) are fully covered by the organization. *Monthly food allowance and pocket money provided. *Local transportation pass included for easy and comfortable travel around the city. Training during the activity Volunteers take part in several trainings to support their journey. Before departure, a preparatory session is held by the sending organization. Soon after arrival, the Lithuanian National Youth Agency offers on-arrival training. Midway through the project, a mid-term seminar brings volunteers together to reflect, share experiences, and recharge. Depending on the home country, some volunteers join training after returning home. Throughout, a tutor supports daily activities and a mentor helps reflect on the international ESC experience. Participant profile We don’t expect you to have previous experience or a specific educational background. Strong English skills are not a must—what truly matters is your openness and heart. What we care about most is the relationships you build with the people in our day center and your genuine care for their well-being. Every shared moment—listening, laughing, learning together—creates connection and meaning. We’re looking for volunteers who are curious, communicative, and ready to grow through real human relationships. This experience is as much about your personal journey as it is about supporting others. You should be ready to stay in Lithuania for the full duration of the project, be between 18 and 30 years old, and not have taken part in a long-term EVS or ESC project before. Motivation and a clear reason why you want to join are what truly make you stand out.
