Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture de Saint-Jean Saint-Jean, France Volunteer opportunity: Working with youth - MJC Saint Jean
The MJC de St Jean is a community education organization that promotes access to education and culture for all, to help create a more caring society. It also has a fabrication space: the Fablab. In this context, many of its actions are aimed at young people, aged 11-25. The volunteer will therefore be required to carry out several tasks with this target group: >Propose sports, cultural and artistic activities in line with its own interests in middle and high schools or during school vacations. >Promote mobility and intercultural exchange by sharing its own volunteering experience, culture and way of thinking. >Help organize local cultural events for residents and young people >Work as part of a team with other members of the youth platform (educator, youth worker, prevention officer, etc.), the volunteer from another MJC. >Take part in the Fablab’s life by guiding the public through the use of machines. >Possibility of setting up its own animation project Accommodation, food and transport arrangements The volunteer is hosted in a shared apartment in Toulouse (large town close to Saint Jean) with its own room, the rent is paid monthly by the MJC. Meals are paid for by the volunteer, who receive pocket money for this purpose. The MJC pays for a subscription to the Toulouse bus and metro network, as well as a discount card for trains. Training during the activity There are two seminars for volunteers: one on arrival, one halfway through the program. The volunteer has French lessons once a week. He/She can be trained in the use of Fablab machines (3D printers, lasers, etc.). Participant profile We are looking for a volunteer who feels comfortable working with people, especially young people. He/she has or wishes to develop social skills such as listening, adaptability, teamwork, and a desire to reach out to others. Finally, this person must be eager to discover the world of social work and communication.
