Overview

NGO MONDO CIVS COMMUNITY SERVICE Volunteer opportunity: ICT Specialist

Tasks Summary

The project, led by CIVS Kenya, takes place at the CIVS Resource Centers in the Kano Plains region of Kisumu County, specifically in Nyakach and Kuth Awendo. These centers are lively community hubs offering ICT training, climate-smart agriculture, tree planting, and early childhood education. Many young people and vulnerable children in the area lack access to digital skills that could transform their future. As a volunteer, you’ll help bridge this gap by supporting digital literacy and ICT-based learning programs that empower local youth and school children. Your contribution will help expand their educational and employment opportunities, while strengthening community resilience in a region facing growing climate and economic challenges. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Accommodation will be arranged at a shared rented flat within the region with a bathroom and toilet. CIVS will furnish the room with a few pieces of furniture and basic equipment for the kitchen and bathroom. The apartment will have electricity and water, though volunteers may on some occasions experience disruptions of these services. Volunteers will be taught how to clean their own clothes using their hands by our local mentors. Volunteers will prepare their own meals at the apartment. Transport to the projects is by motorcycle. Transport to the market, and to Kisumu City is by public vans. Training during the activity This opportunity is part of the BRIDGE project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development and Gender Equality), in which volunteers will have the chance to work on a common objective: empowerment and skills development of vulnerable communities, with a focus on women groups and enhance digital skills, participate in UN Women Summits and animating digital workshops. Visit: https://mondo.org.ee/en/volunteers/ Participant profile The ICT Trainer should be confident using basic digital tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet browsers, and communication platforms such as Zoom. They should understand how to use cloud storage (like Google Drive), create simple content for social media, and be aware of basic online safety practices. It’s important that they can explain digital skills clearly and simply to people of all ages, including young children and those with limited tech experience. Patience, a willingness to help, and experience working with different communities are essential. The trainer should also enjoy helping others learn and feel comfortable using phones, tablets, and computers. Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
