Stichting UcDean Askvoll, Norway Volunteer opportunity: Support the local community in Askvoll, Norway
If you like to explore the local nature by going on hikes, being close to the water and mountains, fishing, swimming, canoeing on the fjord and much more of sport opportunities – read on! Askvoll Frivilligsentral is a volunteer service owned by the municipality of Askvoll, a small municipality on the west coast of Norway. The organisation coordinates voluntary activities in cooperation with local associations, governmental institutions and inhabitants. As a volunteer you will work at the local kindergarten and school, and provide support in other activities such as a language café, second-hand shop, integrational work, entertainment at the elderly home, crafts workshops, food delivery for elderly, digital learning platform for seniors, meeting place at the library and youth projects. As a volunteer you will learn about Norwegian coastal culture and what it is like to live in a small coastal municipality. 10 to 12 months, from August/ September 2026 Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Askvoll municipality provides proper accommodation in the center of Askvoll with a nice view. Each volunteer will have a single bedroom with shared cooking, washing, laundry and social facilities. The volunteers will have access to a bicycle. Askvoll Frivilligsentral pays for all accommodation costs and transport tickets for work purposes. The apartment is fully equipped with bed linens, towels, kitchen tools and extra. It might be a big advantage to hold driving license as the organization provide volunteers with a car for leisure purposes as well. Training during the activity You will have a supervisor who will support you in the organization of activities and who will help you to work on your skills and competences. In November there is an on-arrival seminar for all volunteers in Norway with lots of fun activities, delicious food, hikes and socializing with the peers. It is free of charge and a great chance to meet people who go through the same process and share common challenges and opportunities. The mid-term training is usually in February. Participant profile The project and the place will fit someone who enjoys outdoor activities in all kinds of weather and is be able to cope with a rough climate. The volunteer should be open and enjoy socializing with people of all ages. Someone who is eager to experience new things and take own initiatives. Furthermore, someone who is mature and creative, adaptable, able to work in a team, tolerant and respectful to others and nature. Good communication and social skills are of great importance for the project. This opportunity is specifically for volunteers living in the Netherlands. We will not reply to applications from volunteers who do not meet this criteria.
