Overview

The role supports the Defence Policy and Planning Division in managing the NATO Defence Planning Process by harmonising and coordinating defence planning efforts and capability delivery by Allies. The incumbent acts as Secretary to the NATO Defence Planning Staff Governance Structure and serves as a subject matter expert for EU defence capability development and transatlantic defence industry.


Tasks Summary
  • Support the long-term planning of the NDPP programme of work and facilitate synchronization of efforts between stakeholders
  • Prepare and manage interactions of the NDPS at all levels of the Governance Structure
  • Promote coherence between NDPP capability requirements and multinational capability development within the NATO framework
  • Monitor EU defence capability development efforts and coordinate with EU staffs to promote coherence with NATO's NDPP requirements
  • Act as subject matter expert for transatlantic defence industry and EU capability development
  • Contribute to the analysis of EU capability development policies and programmes
  • Contribute to the analysis of Allied defence plans and programmes, focusing on national industrial landscapes

Experience Requirements
  • At least 3 years’ national or international experience in defence and security
  • Experience in management of a large and diverse set of civil/military stakeholders
  • Experience in conducting analyses of complex documents, interpreting, advising and issuing reports on defence programmes
  • Experience in developing capability strategy and/or capability and acquisition management (desirable)
  • National or international experience in defence and security in a NATO context (desirable)
  • Experience in handling major current international political and politico-military problems (desirable)
  • Good understanding of military capabilities and their organisation, preparation, command and employment (desirable)
  • Understanding of NATO’s organization and structures, including their interaction and relationship (desirable)
  • Understanding of the Alliance’s political and military consultative processes and their related policies and procedures (desirable)

Qualification Requirements
  • University degree from an institute of recognised standing in a relevant discipline; or attended a NATO or national military staff college or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (desirable)
Other Details

Languages Required: • V (“Advanced”) in English or French• I (“Beginner”) in the other official NATO language (English/French)

Work Modality: • Flexible to travel frequently (approximately 20% of working time) and work outside normal office hours

Remuneration: • 8,273.12 Euro (EUR) Monthly
