SERVICE CIVIL INTERNATIONAL BRANCHE FRANCAISE LPO Jessé de Forest Volunteer opportunity: We Are What We Cook
French people talking about cuisine is cliché ? We do like to eat well and, it’s true, for our food to look fancy. And that is one of the purpose of the Jessé de Forest Highschool in Avesnes-sur-Helpe : To learn how to cook food as tasty as it looks ! Through this love for food, we know its importance in connecting people together, but also how much it tells about each other national and cultural history, differences and similarities. The volunteers will support the international office as well as the kitchen office in giving intercultural experiences to the students by: preparing and facilitating student exchanges (the fun part of it); facilitating workshops on interculturality and mutual understanding; and participating in the creative process of the new Internatinal Kitchen! More details information soon available! Accommodation, food and transport arrangements The volunteers will be accomodated for free in a small house close to the highschool and receive pocket money and food allowance to cover for their needs. They will also receive a discount train card to travel in France during their leisure time. Avesnes-sur-Helpe is a small town in Northern France, close to the border with Belgium. The Jessé de Forest highschool works in close cooperation with the townhall to ensure that leisure and cultural times and activities are possible for young people (cinema, gym, music and theater clubs,…) in the town. Training during the activity You will benefit from online French language lessons and personal time to develop your project. As part of the ESC program, the French National Agency will organise 2 seminars for you, where you will meet other ESC volunteers accomplishing their mission in France! Participant profile We are looking for 2 volunteers! We are looking for someone motivated and ready to work in a team. To enjoy food, cooking and everything that goes around food is a plus (but not mandatory), as most of the activities will concern this topic. Also, the volunteers must be able to interact with a group of young people, and at least a basic level in French language. And finally, volunteer should be able to enjoy living in a small town.
