Overview
Leads the Epidemic and Pandemic Management programme to enhance global health security by strengthening countries' capacity to prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to epidemics and pandemics. Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive preparedness, prevention, and response strategies.
Tasks Summary
- Ensures effective direction and management of the Department and/or programme
- Leads the articulation of a departmental vision and its operationalization
- Leads the Department in providing technical expertise and guidance to Member States and stakeholders
- Leads the Department in developing evidence-based policies and strategies
- Provides highest level technical advice and expertise to Management
- Oversees monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the Department's area of work
- Serves as the scientific/technical reference among UN Agencies and other key players
- Builds and strengthens partnerships with External Partners, Member States, UN Agencies, Donors, and research institutions
- Represents the Department area of work in global fora
- Provides strategic leadership to foster cross-departmental and cross-divisional collaboration
- Champions collective action through coordinated resource mobilization, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional initiatives
- Supports the mobilization of voluntary contributions
- Leads and coordinates resource mobilization efforts
- Leads the development, implementation, and dissemination of technical guidelines, comprehensive epidemic and pandemic preparedness plans, and other knowledge products
- Provides guidance for risk assessment and response to graded and protracted emergencies
- Provides high-level political and strategic advice on infectious hazards management
- Oversees the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework Secretariat
- Oversees the enhancement of surveillance and laboratory capabilities
- Directs training and capacity-building initiatives for healthcare professionals
- Oversees global expert networks and advisory groups
- Oversees implementation of the strategic vision of the interim Medical Countermeasures Network
