Alsalam Association VIN Volunteer opportunity: 150 Days of Volunteering in Nepal: Make a Difference

Tasks Summary

This 6-month individual volunteering opportunity takes place in Okhaldhunga, eastern Nepal. Volunteers will engage in public health, child protection, early childhood education, and teacher development activities. You will work directly with disadvantaged rural communities through awareness sessions, creative workshops, and support for local educators. Your role will help foster sustainable development and empower local people, especially women and children, in a deeply meaningful way. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Volunteers will stay at the Naratika Community Learning Centre in Okhaldhunga, in a shared dormitory-style space with basic facilities. The accommodation has been visited by the supporting organization and is clean, safe, and well-suited for volunteers. Wi-Fi is available. Photos of the lodging will be shared in the Info Pack. Local Nepali meals will be provided, while those with dietary restrictions are expected to manage their own needs. Transportation from Kathmandu to the project site will be arranged by VIN via private vehicle. Training during the activity Before deployment to Okhaldhunga, volunteers will participate in a 5–7 day orientation in Kathmandu. This includes sessions on Nepali culture, basic language lessons, project aims, safety guidelines, and daily life tips. On-site, volunteers will also join capacity-building workshops to support their role and impact. Participant profile We are looking for highly motivated individuals aged 18–35 who are passionate about social change, cultural exchange, and community development. Ideal candidates should be adaptable, open-minded, and respectful of different cultures and ways of life. Experience or interest in working with children, education, public health, or social work is a plus, but not mandatory. Volunteers must be willing to live in basic conditions, engage with marginalized rural communities, and participate actively in fieldwork, workshops, and awareness-raising activities. A good level of English is recommended, and the ability to work in a team and show empathy and initiative is essential.
