KAPNIKOS STATHMOS KATERINIS Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini Volunteer opportunity: Solidarity Summer Camp I
Solidarity Summer Camp builds on the long-standing local initiative “Giving a Day of My Summer to the Forest”, active since 2007, which focuses on protecting the forests around Mount Olympus. Running from June to September, the project contributes to forest fire prevention through daily observation shifts at a dedicated watchtower, operated by trained volunteers in close cooperation with local fire brigades. Participants monitor the surrounding forest using binoculars and clear procedures, supporting early detection and rapid response to potential fire risks. Over the years, the initiative has significantly reduced fire danger and strengthened environmental awareness within the local community. The project invites young people from across Europe to actively engage in community life. Alongside fire observation duties, participants are participants are involved in solidarity and social actions, facility maintenance, and support of community events. Funded by the SNJ Luxembourg. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements For the Solidarity Summer Camp volunteers stay in a shared dormitory, featuring 10 bunk beds for 20 participants with no gender separation in a typical summer camp atmosphere. Adjacent modern sanitary facilities offer convenience and privacy, with separate men's and women's bathrooms and five individual shower rooms. Food will be provided by Kapnikos Stathmos in form of cooked meals from Monday through Sunday, prepared on-site following our meal plan. All necessary transport is organized by us. Training during the activity Task-related training, weekly real-life Greek lessons and various workshops Participant profile We are seeking a diverse, motivated, and energetic team of participants. Candidates must be open to working and living intensively with others (especially regarding the accommodation in a mixed dormitory). They should be ready to roll up their sleeves and get dirty or tired when needed, demonstrating a willingness to fully engage in hands-on activities. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable with the hot summer temperatures typical of Greece. We welcome individuals who are enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the environment while fostering successful teamwork. We are not looking for guests, tourists or clients, but for young people ready to fully join the solidarity community. Main working language of the project is English (required), while additional languages are Greek and German.
