Overview

To ensure that all Chinese-language materials meet UNICEF’s standards of accuracy, clarity, style, and impact, the Communication and Advocacy Section seeks to establish a pool of qualified freelance Chinese-language editors. This recruitment aims to secure ongoing editorial capacity to support UNICEF China’s public outreach, advocacy campaigns, and supporter and partner engagement through polished, professional, and culturally resonant Chinese content.

Tasks Summary
  • Ensure all Chinese-language public-facing materials are linguistically accurate, stylistically consistent, and tailored to the local audience.
  • Ensure the proper handling of a wide range of subjects in all Chinese publications including those of an exceptionally sensitive, complex or technical nature.
  • Enhance the quality and impact of translated materials from English into Chinese.
  • Provide expert editing support for materials originally drafted in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Maintain UNICEF’s brand voice and editorial standards across all communication products.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of UNICEF terminology in all Chinese materials.
Experience Requirements
  • At least 10 years of relevant prior work experience in communications, public relations, media, writing, or other relevant fields.
  • At least five years of work experience in English-Chinese translation, interpretation, and editing of publications, stories, articles, briefs and other communication materials.
  • Experience of working with or editing for UNICEF or other UN organizations is desirable, especially in China.
Qualification Requirements

• Candidates should hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Media Studies, International Development or related field.

Languages Required: Native Chinese speaker, fluent in Mandarin and English.
