Overview
The UN Security Operations Center Operator supports the safety and security of personnel, premises, assets, and operations by monitoring, facilitating, and coordinating communications. The role involves responding to callers needing immediate assistance and passing key information in a timely manner.
Tasks Summary
- Provides statistical data on security incidents.
- Coordinates timely dissemination of security threat information.
- Provides translation of information from national languages to English.
- Takes chronological notes of incidents and assists in report preparation.
- Monitors local press and internet media for security incidents and prepares media summaries.
- Conducts regular radio checks and maintains a record.
- Operates communications equipment including VHF, HF radios, satellite telephones, and facsimile.
- Maintains contact details of response teams and emergency services.
- Maintains database of UN personnel, vehicles, and warden lists.
- Assists in warden system activation.
- Provides assistance to Crisis Coordination Center (CCC) and Crisis Management Team (CMT).
- Assists in providing assistance to staff members on a 12/7 basis in emergencies.
- Issues ID cards for UN personnel and dependents.
- Provides administrative/technical support to FSA in UN SOC issues.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4 years (with high school degree) or 1 year (with bachelor’s degree) of administrative or clerical or interpreting or emergency communication experience is required.
- Prior work experience within the UN system, an international NGO or national non-governmental organization is desirable.
- Experience with radio, satellite and web-based communications, and information management/processing is an asset.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary education is required.
- University degree (Bachelor’s degree) in management, administration, communication engineering, social sciences, international relations or other relevant fields will be given due consideration but not a requirement.
