Associazione Costiera Amalfitana Riserva Biosfera Buccino (SA), Italy Volunteer opportunity: Ecosistemi di Comunità
For this project in Buccino, Salerno (Italy) we are looking for 10 participants aged 18–30. Volunteers will help regenerate shared green spaces and support community life through hands-on activities and teamwork. Tasks include maintaining the “Mimì and Peppino” Educational Garden, planting, creating pathways, terraces, and reproducing aromatic plants. In the community, volunteers will support the San Giuseppe Fires festival, maintain green spaces, and help create new community areas. Facilitators will guide participants to observe the environment, identify needs, and co-design short- and long-term actions. Cultural visits, nature excursions, and non-formal activities are included. Some places are reserved for people with fewer opportunities. Travel days: March 3rd and March 31st. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Volunteers will stay at "Casa Movesi", located in the historic center of Buccino. The house includes shared dormitory rooms, two living rooms (one with a fireplace), a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, and a small outdoor garden. Meals are self-managed using pocket money; an initial supply of basic food items is provided. Buccino is walkable, connected by bus to the train station, Salerno, and Naples. Travel costs will be reimbursed according to the ESC guidelines. Travel budget can be slightly higher for Green travel (according to the ESC guide). Training during the activity During the project, volunteers will receive practical, non-formal training led by Francesco Verderese, facilitator of art & craft, permaculture, and baking activities. Training will focus on learning-by-doing approaches, developing practical skills in creative and manual arts, sustainable practices, and teamwork. Drawing on his 12 years of volunteering experience and background in music, theatre, and festival organization, Francesco will support volunteers in planning activities, working collaboratively, and engaging with the local community in a creative and inclusive way. Participant profile This project welcomes young adult volunteers eager to learn, challenge themselves, and share skills in permaculture, craftsmanship, and community work. Volunteers will take part in gardening, nature-based activities, carpentry, and manual work, as well as creative tasks like visual arts, land art, and upcycling. Volunteers will also focus on communication and storytelling, supporting social media, documentation, and sharing the project experience. Hands-on skills, creativity, and teamwork are valued.
