Overview

The Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia leads multidisciplinary technical teams and FAO's response to subregional priorities in line with FAO's Strategic Framework. The role is accountable for FAO activities in the subregion and represents FAO in the host country and other countries in the subregion.

Tasks Summary
  • Oversight of FAO strategic planning and programme development in the subregion, including analysis of priorities, development of strategies, and advising on subregional needs.
  • Ensuring provision of technical support to FAO components of UN planning frameworks and Country Programming Frameworks.
  • Leading subregional mobilization of extrabudgetary resources.
  • Supporting Member countries to address food insecurity, malnutrition, hunger and inequalities.
  • Coordinating and ensuring timely implementation and technical backstopping to FAO programmes and projects.
  • Undertaking regular reporting and monitoring on subregional programmes.
  • Leading on knowledge management, including supporting subregional policy dialogues and facilitating access to FAO’s knowledge resources.
  • Managing human and financial resources of the Subregional Office.
  • Managing security and safety of FAO personnel.
  • Supporting the establishment of partnerships and collaborations with various stakeholders.
  • Advocating FAO’s policy positions and implementing a communications strategy.
  • Performing other duties as required.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience in programme development and management in fields related to the mandate of FAO, including at the international level.
  • Extensive experience in partnership with inter-governmental and international organizations, national governments, technical and donor partners, private sector, civil society organizations, youth and women organizations, farmer associations, etc.
Qualification Requirements

• Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a technical area related to the work of the Organization.

Other Details

Languages Required: • Working knowledge (proficiency – level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish).

Languages Preferred: • Working knowledge (proficiency – level C) of Russian language would be an asset.

Contract Duration: Fixed term: two years with possibility of extension
