Overview
The Media and Campaigns Officer will develop and disseminate communication materials, manage social media platforms, and support advocacy campaigns to communicate Oxfam's work in South Sudan.
Tasks Summary
- Develop and disseminate press releases, media briefs, and communication materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets.
- Coordinate media interviews.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage.
- Support crisis communication and rapid media responses.
- Manage and update social media platforms.
- Produce multimedia content including photos, videos, and infographics.
- Track and analyze social media engagement.
- Ensure consistency of branding, tone, and messaging.
- Translate field evidence into advocacy products.
- Collaborate with teams to generate communication materials.
- Contribute to the development of advocacy campaigns.
- Support national and global Oxfam campaigns with context-specific content.
- Document case studies for advocacy purposes.
- Support the development and implementation of communications and media strategies.
- Support capacity strengthening of local partners.
- Support the development and implementation of influencing, advocacy, and communications strategies.
- Monitor, analyze, and synthesize humanitarian and social developments.
- Contribute to the development of policy briefs and position papers.
- Support rapid assessment of advocacy and communication risks and opportunities during emergencies.
- Ensure timely sharing of information for advocacy.
- Support the planning and delivery of advocacy, media, and public engagement activities.
- Conduct regular field visits to document success stories, photos, videos, and testimonies.
- Engage with communities ethically and respectfully.
- Produce human-interest stories, photo essays, and case studies.
- Maintain a digital archive of photos, videos, and stories.
- Support programme teams with documentation for reports and proposals.
- Contribute communication inputs to donor reports and internal knowledge materials.
- Prepare periodic communication updates for senior management and Oxfam teams.
- Work closely with Program Quality to ensure communications learning informs programme improvement.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications, media, or advocacy within humanitarian or development context.
- Experience working with humanitarian NGOs or international organizations.
- Knowledge of South Sudan context and humanitarian landscape.
- Experience in campaign communication and advocacy.
- Experience managing social media platforms professionally.
- Experience in field documentation, storytelling, photography, or videography, and editing skills.
- Knowledge of tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other programs for designing visually engaging materials.
- Experience of using digital camera and professional media tools.
- Proven previous experience in research, monitoring and evaluation.
Qualification Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, International Development, or related field.
