Overview

The role involves providing technical support and backstopping for projects and programmes aimed at strengthening horticultural crop production systems. The purpose is to promote sustainable and resilient urban and peri-urban cropping systems globally, regionally, nationally, and locally.

Tasks Summary
  • Provide technical support for projects and programmes to strengthen capacities for horticultural crop production.
  • Support assessments of horticultural cropping systems and provide recommendations on practices and technologies.
  • Support the development and review of technical documents and deliver training programmes.
  • Assist in project implementation from conceptualization to monitoring and evaluation.
  • Develop and review technical specifications for inputs and equipment.
  • Collaborate with FAO technical teams, divisions, decentralized offices, and other partners.
Experience Requirements
  • At least one year of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Plant genetic resources management, soil management, water/irrigation management, integrated pest and disease management, plant nutrition, cultural practices, protected cultivation, soilless systems, digital agriculture, sustainable agricultural mechanization, and extension services.
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work is an asset.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the agriculture sector in the English-speaking Caribbean is an asset.
Qualification Requirements
  • For Consultants:
  • Advanced degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in agriculture, agronomy, crop production, crop protection or related fields; or a first level degree with two years of additional experience. For PSAs:
  • The relevant educational background: specific academic or technical qualifications within the required field of expertise.

Languages Required:

Languages Preferred: • Full proficiency knowledge of English (level C) and working knowledge (level B) of a second FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is considered an asset. • Full proficiency knowledge (level C) of one FAO language relevant to the assignment.
