Overview
The Field Security Assistant will contribute to the delivery of FAO’s emergency humanitarian work by ensuring the safety and security of personnel, premises, and assets. The role involves preparing security risk assessments, monitoring security policies, and responding to emergencies.
Tasks Summary
- Respond to staff security emergencies and provide immediate assistance.
- Ensure assistance in cases of theft, vandalism, or natural disasters endangering staff or property.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with United Nations security policies, practices, and procedures.
- Support daily review of the security situation and advise on trends affecting FAO operations.
- Ensure timely dissemination of security information and advisories.
- Carry out security assessments upon request.
- Support contacts with Host Government security organizations, UNDSS, and UN AFPs.
- Ensure fire safety arrangements and evacuation plans are updated and implemented.
- Maintain the Security Plan, including staff lists and contact details.
- Keep records of external and internal missions and staff movements.
- Provide close security support to field operations and assist with ground security arrangements.
- Enforce SRM/SOP compliance for vehicle movements and advise on necessary actions.
- Observe staff compliance to SRM/SOP and report infringements.
- Provide security briefings to newly arrived or on-mission staff.
- Assist staff in preparing security clearances and organize security training courses.
- Perform other duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- Two years of relevant experience in national or international police force, armed forces, a private security organization, or security service of a large organization.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
- Extent and relevance of experience in the use of security and safety systems and of applying protective procedures and techniques.
- Extent and relevance of experience in First Aid, Fire incident management etc.
- Familiarity with the Nigerian security context and architecture, Privileges and immunities for Specialized Agencies of the United Nations.
Qualification Requirements
• University degree in risk or emergency management, social/political science, military science, public administration, law enforcement, law or closely related technical field.
