Overview
Responsible for planning, managing, supervising, and carrying out the annual work plan of the Liaison Office. Contributes to strategic direction and provides analysis on inter-governmental and inter-agency discussions relevant to disaster risk reduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans, manages, supervises and carries out the annual work plan of the Liaison Office.
- Ensures that outputs produced by the Liaison Office meet high-quality standards and support relevant UNDRR mandates.
- Contributes to UNDRR strategic direction, provides analysis and reports on relevant inter-governmental and inter-agency discussions.
- Carries out managerial, programmatic and administrative tasks for the efficient functioning of the liaison office.
- Provides substantive backstopping and policy advice on disaster risk reduction issues to Member States.
- Leads the drafting and coordinates the preparation of the Secretary General's report on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
- Represents UNDRR in New York-based intergovernmental and inter-agency processes and meetings.
- Provides policy and coordination support to the Executive Office (EOSG) for the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General.
- Organizes advocacy events, side events and briefings on disaster risk reduction at the UN Headquarters.
- Identifies opportunities for advancing the disaster risk reduction agenda and promoting UNDRR work.
Required Experience
- A minimum of ten years of relevant progressively responsible experience in project or programme management is required.
- Experience in building strategic alliances and partnerships and in disaster risk reduction is required.
- Experience working with ECOSOC (UN Economic and Social Council) and its subsidiary bodies is required.
- Experience in providing policy support to Member States, UN entities, international organizations in matters related to sustainable development, climate resilience and risk reduction is desirable.
- Experience advocating and consulting with stakeholders on disaster risk reduction and resilience is desirable.
- Experience supporting inter-governmental negotiations is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, management, economics, social sciences, law or related area is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
