Overview
The Statistics intern will contribute to various statistical projects and tasks supporting the division's work on data collection, analysis, and dissemination within the United Nations Statistics Division.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to data collection, validation, analysis, dissemination and data visualization projects.
- Support statistical databases, software development, preparation of reports, briefing, legal texts, communications and other documentation.
- Create research and written contributions for drafting of reports and other documents.
- Create software prototypes using programming languages such as Python.
- Produce inputs for outreach efforts including social media content.
- Assist in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation, dissemination and visualization of statistical data.
- Assist in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s) and dashboards.
- Assist in training and technical support on data collection programmes, country and other related information.
- Perform methodological research as inputs for technical documentation.
- Prepare draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assist in drafting relevant reports.
- Assist in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings.
- Assist with communication, data storytelling and data visualization (infographics) and outreach efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
- Good knowledge of standard software, especially the MS suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams.
