Overview
The role involves developing regional guidelines for Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention to support waste minimization and pollution prevention from construction and demolition activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare a detailed work plan with a timetable.
- Develop and analyze data from a questionnaire on CDW management.
- Prepare an outline for CDW Management Guidelines, covering waste prevention, identification, recycling targets, disposal methods, resource recovery, and emerging technologies.
- Prepare a short summary on CDW quantification methods.
- Prepare a summary of methods for characterizing CDW, including hazardous substances.
- Identify and present main environmental impacts of CDW in a matrix.
- Examine the technical quality of recycled CDW products for various applications.
- List main elements for a CDW Management plan.
- Map available Emerging Technologies in CDW Management.
- Prepare and submit an advanced draft of the Guidelines for review.
- Prepare final Draft Guidelines and a progress report.
Required Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant professional working on waste management, or development of environmental guidelines, policies, or regulatory frameworks, sustainable production and consumption is required;
- Strong knowledge of construction and demolition waste streams, treatment, recycling, and recovery is required;
- Strong knowledge of the global and regional environmental initiatives related to construction and demolition waste management in CDW in disaster-affected areas, or Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices is highly desirable;
Qualifications
• Advanced university degree (MSc. degree or equivalent) in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, Waste Management, or other related discipline is required;
