Overview
The Local Security Assistant supports the implementation of security activities in their area of assignment. They collect and analyze security information, liaise with local authorities, and contribute to incident management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the SA in collecting, updating, and disseminating security information.
- Liaise and coordinate with host government security organizations.
- Evaluate the security situation on the ground and collect relevant information.
- Transmit security information to UN agency sub-office chiefs.
- Maintain regular contacts with UN system agency security focal points.
- Provide technical support during ASMT meetings.
- Prepare and compile data for the UN Security Plan.
- Implement actions required within the security plan.
- Contribute to monitoring compliance with Security Risk Management Measures (SRMM).
- Report incidents impacting UN personnel, offices, or assets.
- Support the drafting of security reports.
- Contribute to organizing and conducting security awareness and preparedness training.
- Provide security orientation for new staff.
- Organize security briefings.
- Provide general administrative support to the SA and CRS.
- Manage correspondence and confidential documents.
- Maintain a database of host government security authority contacts.
- Organize appointments, receive visitors, screen phone calls, and take meeting minutes.
- Execute any other security-related tasks assigned.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience (for high school diploma) or 2 years (for university degree) in security.
- Previous experience within the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
- Experience in military, police, gendarmerie, or a related field is desirable.
- Experience in diplomatic security and protection will be considered an advantage.
- Skills in team management and supervision of technical reports, evaluations, or other specialized documents will be an asset.
- Knowledge of the functioning and use of HF and VHF radios is desirable.
- Possession of a valid driving license and ability to drive 4x4 vehicles.
- Proficiency in computer tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
- Knowledge of the local security context and security measures in force in the region.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree - 2 year(s) experience OR High School certificate - 5 year(s) experience.
- Hold a higher education diploma or a secondary education diploma combined with 02 years of professional experience in security/police or military training or any other related discipline.
