Overview
Provide technical support to ensure effective coordination and project implementation, focusing on achieving results in marine plastic litter reduction and waste management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating technical input from team members and consultants.
- Support day-to-day project implementation and achievement of targets.
- Mobilize goods and services, including preparing ToRs for consultants, meetings, and workshops.
- Support preparation and compilation of inputs for project deliverables.
- Troubleshoot implementation issues by providing technical analysis and recommended solutions.
- Prepare high-quality progress reports and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate and prepare inputs for engagement with the Project Board.
- Monitor project performance and prepare high-quality, results-oriented progress reports.
- Contribute to integrating gender considerations into project activities.
- Monitor progress against the approved work plan and identify deviations.
- Regularly monitor project activities for alignment with annual targets and SOPs.
- Contribute to the preparation of quarterly progress reports.
- Provide technical inputs and data for internal and external reporting.
- Support Project Manager in preparation for project board meetings.
- Liaise with relevant UNDP units by providing technical inputs for review, reporting, and evaluation.
- Support the application of gender equality principles in Results-Based Management.
- Contribute to the documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and knowledge materials.
- Support knowledge management related to river debris removal technologies, circular economy approaches, and sustainable financing mechanisms.
- Collaborate with research institutions by providing technical inputs for baselines, KPI methodologies, and data validation.
- Prepare technical briefs and background documents to support stakeholder engagements.
- Provide technical support in maintaining communication with government counterparts, development partners, private sector, civil society, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate inputs for integrated action plans related to riverine plastic waste management.
- Contribute technical input to ensure alignment of project interventions with local planning and budgeting frameworks.
- Implement capacity-building activities for stakeholders.
- Provide technical inputs to policy discussions and technical dialogues on waste management.
- Support the identification of potential areas for resource mobilization.
- Provide technical input to the communication team to support visibility and stakeholder awareness.
- Provide technical advice and ensure effective implementation of validation methodologies for assessing riverine plastic waste collection and processing performance.
- Provide technical input to the development and refinement of KPIs and performance parameters.
- Provide technical reviews on studies on debris clean-up technologies and waste processing approaches.
- Coordinate technical interactions with Independent Assessors.
- Verify field-level implementation activities.
- Ensure compliance with UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES).
- Review and document technical reports from implementing partners and CSOs.
- Provide technical input to assess technical capacity gaps of partners and support related capacity-building initiatives.
- Identify lessons learned and best practices from project implementation.
- Organize training and capacity-building activities for project staff and stakeholders.
- Prepare knowledge products, including documentation of case studies, lessons learned, and technical summaries.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
- Provide inputs to gender-related knowledge products.
- Perform other duties as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Experience
- Minimum 7 years (with secondary education) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant work experience in the field of environmental and/or natural resource management, waste management, marine debris management, circular economy initiatives, or related fields.
- Experience in using computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience in project management.
- Strong professional knowledge and experience in environmental issues, particularly marine debris, waste management, and circular economy.
- Proven experience in implementing environmental or waste management projects, including coordination with multiple stakeholders such as government institutions, local authorities, private sector, cross-ministerial bodies, and international organizations in multi-cultural environments.
- Experience dealing with Integration of Sustainable Waste Management (ISWM) or participatory planning processes.
- Experience in project management and monitoring progress of the work plan.
- Experience in dealing with Performance-Based Approach (PBA) mechanism.
- Experience providing technical support for studies on debris clean-up technologies or waste processing approaches.
- Experience working with UNDP, other UN agencies, international organizations, or major donor-funded programmes.
Qualifications
- Secondary education is required.
- A university degree (bachelor´s degree) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Waste Management, Marine Science, Natural Resource Management will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
