Overview
The consultant will support technical verification of sampling stations, data quality, and relinquishment information for exploration area adjustment. This role involves assessing GIS data consistency against regulations and providing geospatial analysis for regulatory, resource-related, and environmental initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical geospatial assessment of exploration applications, relinquishment proposals, and area-based management tools.
- Update status of reserved areas for exploration, maintain historical records, and update geospatial information on the ISA website.
- Support data reviews and assessments, verify and process contractor-provided data, particularly bathymetric and georeferenced datasets.
- Provide requested geospatial information to the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) and the ISA Secretariat.
Required Experience
- At least 7–10 years of experience in geospatial-related software (i.e., ArcGIS/QGIS).
- Preferably, experience in python/R programming, including ArcPy, SQL, and JSON.
- Database operational experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
- Operational experience with intergovernmental organizations required with data interoperability frameworks (e.g., ODIS standards) is desired.
Qualifications
• Advanced degree (minimum MSc, preferred PhD) in marine science, particularly oceanography, geology/geophysics, with data science is desired.
