Overview
The Climate Change Consultant will support the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the country's climate programmes. The role provides technical guidance and management support to develop and facilitate the administration and achievement of climate and environment sensitive output results.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic programme planning, coordination, and implementation support
- Coordination and management of the TCO Climate Task Force
- Advocacy, evidence generation, policy, and positioning of UNICEF in climate change
- External partnerships, resource mobilization and linkages to regional and global efforts
- Capacity building, climate innovation and knowledge management
Required Experience
- At least nine years of relevant work experience, particularly in areas related to development cooperation in climate change adaptation and mitigation, environment and socio-economic development.
- Well conversant with relevant the Tanzania national DRR, Environment and Climate Change policy and legal framework
- Experience working with government at national and sub-national level, International Organizations, Non-Government Organizations and communities in climate adaptation and/or mitigation programmes in the field of water, health, education, nutrition and other social sectors
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working with Development Partners and Civil Society Organizations on proposals development for accessing funds from Climate and DRR funding windows
- Familiarity with children’s rights and gender in the context of climate and environment change. Knowledge of gender equality principles and gender-sensitive programming.
- Previous experience within UNICEF or others UN agencies is an asset.
- Analytical, negotiation, communication and advocacy skills.
- Coordination, leadership and teamwork abilities with ability to work and deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work with intersectoral teams and effectively promote information-sharing, collaboration, and cooperation
- Ability to operate computer, particularly with Microsoft office programs (MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Access).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Research and data analysis capacity is an added advantage
