Overview

The National Animal Health Specialist will assist in the planning and implementation of animal disease surveillance systems, vaccination campaigns, and capacity building initiatives for veterinary personnel in Yemen.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the preparation and implementation of disease surveillance systems, vaccination campaign, the Pre and Post Vaccination Evaluation (PVE).
  • Assist in providing technical support to the GDAHVQ in laboratory analysis of the serum samples collected and report writing.
  • Follow up with the DGAHVQ and agriculture offices on the technical and financial report and prepare the payments for the LoAs.
  • Assist in the preparation and facilitation of training courses on animal disease diagnostics, lab quality assurance, surveillance system, and transboundary animal diseases (TADs) Surveillance, Control and Outbreak investigation.
  • Assist in supporting planning and implementation of capacity building of the veterinary extension staff at GDAHVQ on TADs surveillance.
  • Support the planning, coordination and organization of meetings with GDAHVQ, stakeholders from the private sector, representatives of Veterinary Statutory Body (VSB), laboratories, veterinary education establishments, etc.
  • Assist in collecting and reviewing the available data related to the concept of One Health and AMR in the northern governorates.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years directly applicable experience in managing animal health programme
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in projects implementation
  • Extent and relevance of experience working with government, NGOs and/or UN agencies.
  • Excellent technical skills in planning, implementing, and reporting on animal health interventions.
  • Teamwork and strong soft skills including interpersonal, ethical, listening and communication skills, proactive, problem solving, self-organizing, planning, organizing, setting priorities and efficient use of time.
  • Computer literacy in MS office, familiarity with agricultural commodity exchange online system and animal identification and traceability systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of programme and project implementation is considered a strong asset.
  • Extent and relevant experience in implementation of projects and planning and monitoring, and reporting.
  • Relevant work experience in emergency context.
Qualifications

• Advanced degree in veterinary medicine
