Overview
The Detention Doctor assesses detainees' health status and access to healthcare within detention settings. The role involves planning, implementing, and monitoring projects to improve health and restore dignity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assesses needs, plans and implements projects and activities to improve detainees' access to health care, health and nutritional status, and the health system.
- Monitors and evaluates projects and activities, collecting and analysing relevant data.
- Shares findings with Detention and Health teams and writes reports.
- Establishes and maintains contacts with external health care players.
- Ensures respect for medical ethics.
- Documents cases of ill-treatment.
- Follows up sick and wounded detainees.
- Advises and follows up hunger strikers and their medical staff.
- Trains medical staff.
- Draws up the annual institutional budget and planning document.
Required Experience
- Between 3-5 years of professional clinical experience.
- Minimum 2 years of international humanitarian experience.
- Sound experience in project management and public health.
- Experience in healthcare in detention a strong asset.
- Previous exposure to international human rights issues an asset.
Qualifications
- University degree in Medicine (medical doctor).
- License to practice in country of residence.
- Computer literacy.
