Overview

Support the delivery of project objectives related to climate change adaptation and ecosystem resilience in Mauritania. Provide technical guidance, manage project activities, and coordinate adaptation policy processes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support delivery of project objectives and provide technical guidance.
  • Review and analyze country-specific development plans and priorities.
  • Ensure adherence to UNEP rules and regulations for financial and administrative matters.
  • Assist in programming and control of resources, prepare budget estimates and expenditure forecasts.
  • Undertake missions to project sites to provide technical guidance and coaching.
  • Monitor progress of project activities and prepare reports and recommendations.
  • Identify and document good practices and lessons learned.
  • Provide technical inputs and quality review of project outputs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide inputs to and draft project materials such as terms of reference and policy briefs.
  • Organize, participate as a resource person, and represent the project in meetings and workshops.
  • Establish and maintain links with national, regional, and local stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular communication with UNEP specialists.
  • Act as the national technical focal point within the project.
  • Draft, edit, or translate communication materials.
Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project management (program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting) and technical advisory support in relation to climate change adaptation, environment and/or sustainable development work in Mauritania is required. Experience in multi-cultural setting and/or the United Nations system is desirable. Work experience in understanding Mauritanian ecosystems and their services in support of livelihoods and adaptation is desirable. Work experience in national and sector policy development, analysis and public sector planning and budgeting is desirable. Work experience in integration of environment into sub-national and national development planning and budgeting processes; is desirable. Work experience in institutional assessment and capacity building in relation to environment and natural resources management and sustainable development; monitoring and reporting is desirable. A minimum of 2 years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental science, economics, social science, project planning and management, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
