Overview
The Staff Counsellor will assess the wellbeing and psychosocial needs of personnel, conduct defusing and emotional first aid, and provide clinical counselling services. The role also involves implementing preventative stress management activities and facilitating peer support groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing wellbeing and psychosocial needs of personnel and making recommendations.
- Conducting individual or group defusing and emotional first aid.
- Providing appropriate referrals following critical incidents.
- Acting as a clinical counselling resource to personnel.
- Performing clinical follow-up.
- Ensuring all personnel have access to counselling services, including travel to various locations.
- Collaborating with other sections and developing strategic relationships with Senior Management.
- Coordinating clinical activities with other counselors and focal points.
- Providing conflict resolution/mediation sessions upon request.
- Implementing preventative and mitigating stress management/wellbeing activities.
- Attending and participating in Welfare Committee meetings.
- Assisting the Welfare Committee in establishing and maintaining exercise, sport, and recreational facilities.
- Helping the Welfare Committee in developing and maintaining a library.
- Liaising with other UN agencies and NGOs regarding training, events, or activities.
- Facilitating greater use of peer support through the establishment and training of peer support groups.
- Compiling and/or developing informational resources for staff.
- Providing an induction/briefing to new personnel.
- Creating and distributing wellbeing pamphlets, posters, and materials.
- Monitoring stress management program implementation via data collection.
- Reporting to the Chief Staff Counsellor on all activities.
- Performing other related tasks assigned by the Chief Medical Officer or designated officer.
Required Experience
- 3 years required experience.
- 5 years relevant experience.
- Other emergency management experience is mandatory.
- Critical Incident Management experience is required.
Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Degrees, certificates, or training in health or physical education, hospitality, marketing, sports marketing, public relations, or similar people and service-oriented degrees are considered an advantage.
- Clinical Licensure necessary.
- Minimum 1,000 supervised clinical hours.
