Overview
The Protection specialist - Child protection is responsible to support the initiation and quality of DRC Child protection activities for ALT Country office. The position will provide technical guidance to DRC protection staff and develop the CP programming for Algeria, Libya and Tunisia Country office in line with DRC Protection Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- In coordination with the Protection manager ALT develop DRC’s child protection programming inclusive of the establishment of Child protection case management and child friendly spaces for the 3 countries
- Develop Child protection technical guidance as well as the associated tools for the implementation of the CP program of DRC for Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
- Provide continual technical support and monitoring of child protection program activities to ensure applicability of quality standards.
- Provide supervision to protection staff on child protection interventions inclusive of ongoing capacity building, professional development and technical support.
- Promote the effective use of and compliance with relevant tools, forms, SOPs etc. so as to ensure program quality and impact.
- Responsible for collating information and reporting progress and challenges to ALT Protection manager and relevant Project managers in the field locations
- In coordination with the Protection manager, project managers and other specialists adjust program implementation based on needs and context.
- In collaboration with the Information management specialist and Protection information management officer support the development of the IM system for Child protection.
- Promote a professional environment conducive to collaboration, team work and professional development.
- Uphold compliance of program staff with the applicable standards related to protection programming, code of conduct, as well as additional internal DRC procedures and guidelines.
- Develop capacity building strategies for the protection team at the field level
- Support the ongoing data collection and analysis related to Child protection issues in coordination with ALT Protection manager, Project manager and PIM officer to support analysis, emblematic areas and emerging sector issues
- In coordination with the ALT Protection Manager and Program development quality Manager, input into the development of M&E tools & roll-out the tools/processes to measure program quality and impact.
- Contribute to the documentation and consolidation of lessons learnt from CP activities
- Support the production of comprehensive, quality and timely reports for donors and humanitarian coordination forums on program activities
- In coordination with the ALT Protection Manager represent DRC in the relevant coordination meetings, such as the CP working group
- Develop and strengthen relationships with networks and other stakeholders working on CP and GBV to ensure linkages and alignment for DRC programming
Required Experience
- At least 3-years’ experience in the fields of working for international or national humanitarian organizations in the area of Child protection.
- Previous experience working in context of mixed migration flows with good knowledge of protection and CP issues affecting people in a situation of forced displacement or migration
- Demonstrate ability in conceptual, analytical and critical thinking with the ability to contribute to programmatic or advocacy strategies towards greater quality and impact
- Experience in capacity building of staff including training and supervision.
- Knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child protection such as the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, Inter-agency Guidelines on Separated and Unaccompanied Children and IASC Guidelines in Emergencies.
- Excellent technical knowledge of protection standards and principles and demonstrated capacity to develop effective responses to identified psychosocial needs protection needs and in accordance with the relevant frameworks
- Experience in MHPSS or education programming highly desirable
- Commitment to integrate gender, conflict sensitivity and accountability into programming
- Demonstrate ability in thinking creatively and practically to improve the quality of programming and achieve greater impact
- Ability to work flexibly in a diverse team; with proven leadership skills
