Overview
The WASH Officer will provide technical, operational, and administrative assistance for WASH programming, contributing to the achievement of country program output results that improve child survival, growth, and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyze WASH trends.
- Prepare technical reports and programme documentation.
- Assist in developing WASH-related outcome and output results.
- Provide technical and administrative support throughout programming processes.
- Monitor and report on programme implementation issues and resource utilization.
- Undertake field visits and surveys.
- Provide technical and operational support to counterparts and partners.
- Draft inputs for humanitarian WASH preparedness and response.
- Build and sustain partnerships with government and national stakeholders.
- Draft communication materials for WASH programme advocacy.
- Participate in inter-agency meetings on WASH programming.
- Research potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials.
- Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of WASH action research and innovation.
- Assist in preparing learning/knowledge products.
- Assist in creating and delivering learning opportunities for UNICEF WASH staff.
Required Experience
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
Basic knowledge of four of the following eight components is required:
- Rural water supply for low- and middle-income countries - including water safety, sustainability
- Rural sanitation for low- and middle-income countries, including sustainability; applying CATS principles
- Urban sanitation for low- and middle-income countries, including sustainability
- Handwashing with soap
- WASH-in-Schools and Health Centres
- Menstrual hygiene management
- National government WASH policies, plans and strategies
- Analysis of national budgets and expenditure for basic WASH, and related advocacy
Basic knowledge of two of the following four components is required:
- Humanitarian WASH preparedness, response and recovery
- Programme/project management
- Capacity development
- Knowledge management
- Monitoring and evaluation
Basic knowledge of the following is required:
- Human rights and WASH
- Gender equality and WASH
Qualifications
- A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary /Hydraulic engineering or another relevant technical field.
- Advanced university degrees /post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
