Overview
The Ward Nurse promotes and ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care within the ICRC Gaza Hospital Program (GHP) surgical team, with a focus on the Surgical Project. This role involves strengthening nursing care and infection prevention and control, potentially in challenging conditions and with limited resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides high-quality care to admitted patients.
- Participates in delivering a training/coaching programme.
- Promotes a clean and safe patient environment and ensures hygiene conditions are maintained.
- Ensures accurate data collection through timely completion and filing of patient/hospital-related documents.
- Participates effectively in emergency preparedness or response measures.
- Ensures clinical management of nursing and auxiliary staff.
- Cooperates with and provides relevant support to internal and external counterparts.
- Ensures rational use of resources and proper equipment maintenance.
- Works in close collaboration with the Mobile Ward Nurse and participates in inpatient ward rounds.
- Ensures smooth running of ward rounds in coordination with PRCS/MoH nurses.
- Ensures surgical patients receive standard pre- and post-operative care.
- Supervises cleaning staff and participates in stocking up supplies.
- Reviews pre-operative checklist and other vital documents.
- Embraces aseptic technique principles.
- Ensures correct nursing documentation.
- Contributes to weekly/monthly operational reports and provides statistics when requested.
- Attends and contributes during departmental meetings and other briefings.
- Contributes to good stock control and efficient use of hospital equipment.
- Reports Health Care in Danger (HCiD) and gender-based violence (GBV) related issues.
- Ensures security and safety protocols for staff and patients are implemented and followed.
Required Experience
- 3 to 5 years overall work experience in a hospital.
- 1 to 3 years' practice with specific qualification in OT nursing.
- Previous experience in acute-care departments such as emergency rooms, intensive-care units, and recovery rooms.
- Previous international humanitarian and/or development experience in low-income countries is an asset.
- Previous experience within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an asset.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/diploma in nursing/midwifery or equivalent (minimum 3-year course).
- Registered nurse with a valid license to practice in his/her own country.
- Computer literacy.
