Overview
Provide day-to-day technical advice to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on Energy Transition, assisting in policy development, inter-ministerial coordination, and engagement with partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the day-to-day energy expert embedded within Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's Energy Hub, providing direct technical and analytical guidance on the Just Energy Transition.
- Provide technical advice to UNEP’s Climate Policy lead in managing and overseeing research and providing strategic and technical guidance on economic impact analysis.
- Interpret and translate analytical inputs into policy-relevant outputs for Ministry of Environment and Climate Change decision-makers.
- Advise on aligning Energy Transition Pathways with national policy frameworks and international obligations.
- Facilitate inter-ministerial coordination, including the preparation of technical briefs, meeting notes, and position papers.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of capacity-building programmes for Ministry of Environment and Climate Change staff and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure internal coordination within Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and with UNEP's Strategic Engagement Advisor.
- Ensure the effective implementation of the Brazil-Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance Fund programme and contribute to coordination between Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and UNEP.
- Promote Brazil’s engagement in national and international energy transition fora.
- Monitor international energy policy developments and produce regular briefing notes.
Required Experience
- Two (2) years of professional experience in the field of sustainable development, climate change policy development, energy policy/transition or environmental management is required.
- Demonstrated expertise in energy transition, and transition finance risks is desirable.
- Proven experience in project management is desirable.
- Experience with public finance and financial-related risks is desirable.
- Technical expertise working with multi-stakeholder processes in sustainable development and global commitments is desirable.
- Experience in working with the UN System and at international level is desirable.
- Experience with Brazil’s public sector institutions is desirable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, International Relations, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Management, Political Sciences, Economical Sciences, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Engineering or related area of study is required.
- Master´s degree in Public Administration, International Relations, Energy Policy, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Management, Political Sciences, Economical Sciences, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Engineering or related area of study is required.
- PhD, degree in Public Administration, International Relations, Energy Policy, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Management, Political Sciences, Economical Sciences, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Engineering or related area of study is desirable.
