Overview
The Project Officer (Farmer Field School) will support the development, expansion, and coordination of FAO Syria's Farmer Field School (FFS) programme, ensuring robust curriculum and training for FFS activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Researches and analyses technical issues on programme/project development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Produces technical information, data, statistics, and documents.
- Provides technical support and analysis for assessments, studies, and projects.
- Collaborates in developing improved tools, systems, processes, and databases.
- Oversees the updating of databases and web pages.
- Participates in multidisciplinary teams and leads working groups.
- Collaborates with other Divisions/Offices/Centres and agencies.
- Provides technical backstopping and ensures quality of capacity development activities.
- Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings.
- Supports FFS components of multidisciplinary teams.
- Develops technical, analytical, monitoring, and reporting frameworks for FFS programmes.
- Designs and conducts research, data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting for FFS standards.
- Prepares progress and end-of-assignment reports.
- Supports international cooperation and advocates for FFS best practices.
- Identifies areas for improvement in production and productivity for small producers.
- Supports FFS trainings and workshops, including Training of Trainers (TOT) and Facilitators (TOF).
- Contributes to the establishment of FFS activities for crops and livestock.
- Ensures meaningful participation and benefit for women in FFS.
- Contributes to strategies for continuous monitoring and evaluation within the FFS framework.
- Supports learning and provides technical guidance on production, processing, and marketing of fodder and other animal husbandry practices.
- Undertakes FFS field assessments and supports FFS value chain activities.
- Responds to requests from the FAO Representative.
Required Experience
- Five years of relevant experience in technical cooperation-related activities, policy advice and analysis relating to food and nutrition security, agriculture and rural development, fishery, forestry, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
- Experience running TOFs, curriculum development, facilitating FFS first hand.
- Relevance and extent of experience in technical cooperation's related activities, policy advice and analysis relating to food and nutrition security, agriculture and rural development, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes.
- Relevance and extent of experience in working with inter-governmental bodies and multidisciplinary teams.
- Relevance and extent of experience in agricultural extension, FFS activities, and/or providing technical support and advice on institutional capacity building processes is considered an asset.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political sciences, business administration, agricultural economics, development economics, rural sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture (including livestock, forestry and fisheries) or related field.
- An advanced university degree in plant protection and production is desirable.
