Overview
The role supports the implementation and monitoring of the Virunga component of the Vanishing Treasures project and related initiatives, focusing on climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation in mountain ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of project components and related activities.
- Conduct basic research, collect and analyze data on mountain biodiversity and wildlife.
- Provide substantive support for policy coordination and monitoring functions.
- Support consultative meetings and conferences.
- Contribute to written outputs such as background papers, reports, and publications.
- Undertake communication and outreach activities, and participate in training workshops.
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and identification of trends.
- Draft M&E reports and organize consultation meetings.
- Develop innovative communication tools and regional project proposals.
- Identify and assess relevant case studies and gaps for policy briefs.
- Develop concept notes and draft project proposals.
- Prepare reports on project interventions and organize field missions.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management is required.
- Experience working in the Greater Virunga Landscape, including in stakeholder engagement across government, civil society, and transboundary organisations is required.
- Experience in great ape conservation is required.
- Experience supporting or managing multi-country projects within biodiversity conservation or ecosystem restoration is desirable.
- Experience in developing innovative financing tools for biodiversity conservation is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in primate conservation, conservation biology, or a related field is required. A first level university degree with additional two years of qualifying maybe accepted in lieu of advanced degree.
