Overview
The Security Officer will assist in the supervision of a Security Unit, develop and monitor security contingency plans, and assess local security conditions to advise UN personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the supervision of a Security Unit.
- Develops and monitors the implementation of security contingency plans.
- Assesses prevailing local security conditions and advises UN personnel on security issues.
- Serves as a member of the Security Cell.
- Evaluates emergency evacuation capability and conducts evacuation exercises.
- Determines accessible areas and maintains tracking systems.
- Assesses the level of security risk for the area of operations.
- Monitors, conducts, or coordinates security operations.
- Maintains communication with security focal points and stakeholders.
- Briefs supervisors on unit status and requirements.
- Ensures fire prevention devices and equipment are available and maintains fire evacuation plans.
- Maintains office security through physical inspections.
- Assumes responsibility for guard force management.
- Monitors and evaluates office physical security measures and conducts security surveys.
- Provides advice and training to UN personnel on security matters.
- Identifies training needs of security and mission staff.
- Investigates security-related incidents.
- Identifies capability gaps and makes recommendations.
- Contributes to the planning of protective services for Senior UN Officials.
- Drafts Statements of Requirement and provides technical specifications for security equipment procurement.
- Inspects security equipment and ensures compliance with policy.
- Coordinates issuance of identity cards, background checks, and entry controls.
- Sets up and manages a warden system.
- Acts as Duty Officer within the Security Section.
- Establishes, maintains, and strengthens partnerships through liaison and coordination of visits and access.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Experience
A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, security management or analysis with a military, police or international security management organization is required, including at least two years experience and exposure at the international level and at least one year of experience in a conflict and post conflict environment. Experience in establishing, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships with high-level stakeholders, including ambassadors and Host Country Governments officials, to facilitate secure, timely, and well-coordinated access arrangements is desirable.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
