Overview

The Chargé(e) de Communication terrain will support UNICEF Benin's visibility efforts in Northern Benin by documenting program results and contributing to content needs for donors and partners.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collect field content and human interest stories through missions, interviews, photos, and videos.
  • Write human interest stories, portraits, photo captions, field briefs, and activity summaries.
  • Propose communication topics based on programmatic priorities and donor visibility needs.
  • Prepare proposal notes with angles, key messages, human interest, and recommended formats.
  • Adapt collected content for various platforms including internal briefs, social media, web pages, and donor contributions.
  • Support communication preparation and coverage of field visits, missions, activities, thematic days, and events.
  • Provide simple and quickly usable content such as selected photos, quotes, briefs, and post proposals.
  • Maintain a regular flow of field content to enhance visibility of interventions in the North.
  • Propose innovative formats adapted to the local context, such as mini-portraits, audio testimonials, short video capsules, photo series, or participatory formats with youth.
  • Contribute to valorizing community voices, especially adolescents and youth, in communication content.
  • Ensure classification, archiving, and transmission of produced content with necessary context.
  • Ensure content adheres to UNICEF editorial standards and requirements for child protection, confidentiality, informed consent, and image rights.
  • Apply ethical guidelines for reporting on children and report any situation presenting an ethical or protection risk.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in communication, journalism, content production, field documentation, or media animation.
  • Experience in collecting testimonials, writing field narratives, and producing content for various media.
  • Functional mastery of photography and video, including with smartphones.
  • Good ability to work with multiple stakeholders and produce content within short deadlines.
  • Experience working with UNICEF, an international organization, an NGO, or a local media is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of human rights-based approaches, gender sensitivity, and donor communication requirements is an asset.
  • Knowledge of a national language of the Northern Benin region (Dendi, Fulfulde, Bariba) is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, digital communication, marketing, audiovisual, graphic design, social sciences, or related fields.
  • Minimum BAC+3 university degree in communication, journalism, literature, social sciences, or a related field.

Contract Duration
12 months (with possibility of extension)

Remuneration
• Monthly subsistence allowance of 533666.66 XOF. • Lump sum entry allowance of USD350.00 (paid with the first paycheck). • Travel expenses to facilitate travel to and from the duty station (if eligible). • End-of-assignment allowance of 120 dollars per month of service, paid at the end of the contract, subject to meeting required conditions. • Medical, dental, and hospitalization insurance, as well as life and disability insurance within the limits of the current insurance policy. • Medical insurance for eligible dependents (maximum 03). • 2.5 days of annual leave accrued per month of service. • Access to UNV learning and professional development resources.
