Overview

Advises on international criminal law and human rights matters, conducts legal research, and supports investigations for the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan.


Key Responsibilities
  • Advises on applicable legal framework and standards.
  • Conducts legal research and prepares opinions.
  • Liaises with transitional justice actors.
  • Conducts investigations, interviews victims and witnesses.
  • Suggests legal qualifications of gathered information.
  • Advises on standard of proof and determines responsibilities.
  • Provides advice on legal issues and drafts legal opinions.
  • Ensures legal accuracy of documents.
  • Identifies trends and patterns of violations.
  • Drafts legal framework and analysis for reports.
  • Conducts information gathering activities.
  • Integrates gender perspective into legal analysis.
  • Advises on legal findings and recommendations.
  • Coordinates with Gender Advisor and SGBV Investigator.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights, international humanitarian law, international criminal law is required. At least two years of experience in providing legal analysis to human rights investigative bodies or tribunals is required. Experience in the region is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in international law, or another discipline related to human rights is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
