Overview

Support the environmental assessment of solid waste management systems in the municipality of Postrervalle, Bolivia, and develop environmental management strategies and recommendations for its integrated solid waste management programme.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the environmental assessment and analysis of solid waste management systems, including identification of environmental risks, contamination sources, and impacts.
  • Formulate environmental objectives, targets, strategies, and recommendations for waste reduction, environmental education, composting, climate change mitigation, and sustainable waste management practices.
  • Support the formulation of environmental components of technical and operational models for composting systems and risk reduction.
  • Develop environmental criteria and recommendations for sustainable waste management infrastructure and operational practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental training and capacity-building activities.
  • Support the formulation of environmental indicators, monitoring mechanisms, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Support coordination and articulation processes with municipal authorities and stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental analyses, and implementation recommendations.
  • Support the consolidation and technical review of environmental components of the PMGIRS.
  • Provide technical support to additional environmental management, climate resilience, circular economy, and solid waste management initiatives.
  • Propose formats and procedures for efficient project implementation.
  • Design methodologies for systematization of good practices and knowledge.
  • Support the formulation of substantive documents linked to UN-Habitat Colombia's thematic lines of action.
  • Prepare reports related to meetings, missions, and activities.
  • Carry out research activities to facilitate information exchange on sustainable urban development.
  • Collect information on the urban status in Andean Countries.
  • Support monitoring of UN-Habitat's implementation of SDG Target 11.
  • Identify strategic allies for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Andean countries.
  • Manage knowledge networks for dissemination of methodologies and documents.
Required Experience

A minimum of (Four) 4 years of professional experience in environmental management, environmental assessment, climate resilience, environmental risk management, or solid waste management projects is required. Experience in environmental analyses, environmental impact assessments, environmental mitigation strategies, or environmental management instruments related to solid waste management or environmental sustainability initiatives is desirable. Experience in the formulation or implementation of environmental strategies, climate resilience approaches, composting systems, environmental education activities, or environmental sustainability initiatives is desirable. Experience working in rural, small-scale, or intermediate municipalities in Bolivia is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Natural Resources Management, or related fields is required. A first degree in areas related to in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Environmental Management, Natural Resources Management, Forestry Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Additional training in environmental risk management, composting, climate resilience, circular economy, environmental education, or solid waste management is desirable.
