Overview

Provide specialized technical support to advance the development of the Central Framework for a System of Population and Social Statistics (CF-SPSS). The role focuses on reviewing classifications, developing a glossary, preparing population group structures, and systematizing country practices.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review and synthesize existing materials to identify relevant statistical standards, tabulation practices, and country experiences.
  • Support the development of a common statistical language for the SPSS, including reviewing concepts, definitions, and classifications.
  • Support the review and revision of the Classification of Statistical Activities.
  • Support the development of an initial common structure of population groups.
  • Support the development of an initial set of integrated tabulations.
  • Systematize country practices and national experiences relevant to the CF-SPSS.
  • Prepare background notes, summary papers, and working documents.
  • Support the preparation and revision of initial drafts of Task Team deliverables.
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentation materials and summary documentation for workshops and consultations.
Required Experience

A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in drafting analytical reports, background papers, methodological documents or research papers in official statistics or related fields is required. Experience in population and/or social statistics is required. Experience in the development or application of statistical frameworks, classifications, concepts, definitions, tabulations, disaggregation practices, or integrated data approaches is highly desirable. Experience in working with governments, national statistical offices, regional organizations or international organizations is desirable. Experience supporting expert groups, technical committees or intergovernmental statistical processes is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, demography, sociology, economics, public policy, social sciences, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
