Consultancy to conduct a market study on menstrual hygiene products in Cameroon, focusing on market players, supply chains, user practices, access barriers, and policy frameworks.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive mapping of key market players (producers, importers, distributors, NGOs).
  • Perform a detailed analysis of the supply chain and distribution channels.
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of user practices, preferences, and behaviours.
  • Structure an analysis of the main barriers to access (economic, social, geographical, cultural).
  • Provide an overview of policies, regulations, and tax frameworks applicable to menstrual products.
  • Identify existing regulatory constraints.
  • Propose concrete opportunities to improve the legal and policy framework.
  • Understand the cost structure of menstrual products.
  • Analyze price levels in the market.
  • Assess the affordability of products for different population groups.
  • Identify development opportunities in this segment.
  • Develop a reliable database from field surveys.
  • Provide actionable quantitative and qualitative analytics.
  • Identify avenues of intervention for market development (market-based approach).
  • Develop guidelines for private sector engagement.
  • Create a technical basis for policy advocacy and dialogue with partners.
Required Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in WASH, Environmental Engineering, Development Economics, Social Sciences, business and marketing or any other equivalent field, including at least 5 years of proven experience in conducting market research, value chain analysis or similar studies in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa; Proven experience in implementing field studies including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, ideally in the areas of WASH, health or consumer essentials; Proven experience in analyzing market dynamics (supply, demand, supply chains, distribution) and factors influencing access to products, including economic and social dimensions; Very good knowledge of the WASH and/or menstrual health sector in Cameroon (actors, policies, market dynamics), as well as the socio-economic and cultural context, particularly in vulnerable areas; Experience in engaging and facilitating with multiple stakeholders (public institutions, NGOs, private sector, communities), including organizing consultation and validation workshops.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, WASH, Public Health, Development Economics, Business, Marketing, Social Sciences or another relevant field.
