Overview

The Assistant Education Officer will support the roll-out of UNHCR's Refugee Education 2030 strategy, promoting equitable and inclusive education for refugees and host communities. The role involves providing technical support, advocacy, and partnership development to ensure access to quality education.


Key Responsibilities
  • Translate global education objectives into regional or national guidance.
  • Engage and foster partnerships with national education stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice and support on UNHCR education programmes.
  • Support advocacy activities with States and international organisations.
  • Participate in national humanitarian and development sector working groups.
  • Assist Country Offices in elaborating and implementing education strategies.
  • Undertake dialogue on programme implementation with Ministries of Education and partners.
  • Foster inter-sectoral linkages and coordination with other sectors.
  • Assist in monitoring programme implementation and Global Refugee Forum pledges.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of UNHCR's role concerning education.
  • Train UNHCR staff, UN agency staff, NGOs, and Ministry of Education officials.
  • Assist with the development and dissemination of relevant tools.
  • Support active exchange of information and best practices.
  • Join joint assessment missions in emergencies.
  • Prepare and draft education input in key internal and external documents and reports.
  • Support identification and management of risks and opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience

1 year relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or no experience with Graduate degree; or no experience with Doctorate degree. Experience with educational research, teaching or education administration. Field experience in education programme implementation and coordination in humanitarian and/or development contexts is desirable. Experience working with Governments, Ministry of Education and other line Ministries is desirable. Demonstrated work experience in refugee education programmes is desirable. Knowledge and experience of UNHCR policies and standards is desirable. Experience in the area of child protection is desirable. Demonstrated work experience in education programmes is desirable.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or Graduate degree or Doctorate degree in Education; Social Sciences; or other relevant field.

French, fluent (expected Overall ability is at least B2 level).
Languages Preferred
English a second Language. Good working knowledge of Arabic an asset.
