Overview
The Senior Legal Officer (Head, Development Law Service) provides legal advice and support on legal and institutional means to promote and regulate national development and international cooperation in the food and agriculture sector. The role involves managing the Development Law Service, overseeing its work programme, and representing the Organization in relevant multilateral fora.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the Development Law Service, setting goals, monitoring efficiency, and providing guidance and supervision.
- Manages the resources of the Service, including financial resources and personnel.
- Ensures the Service delivers high-quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Coordinates and fosters exchange of experience and knowledge on development law issues.
- Fosters innovation and the use of new technologies to enhance the Service's work.
- Identifies legislative and other solutions to assist Members with emerging challenges.
- Oversees the preparation of policy and position papers and reports.
- Provides high-level advice and consultancy services to managers, staff, and Members.
- Contributes to the planning and evaluation of the Legal Office's work programme.
- Represents the Organization in multilateral fora.
- Fosters teamwork and communication among personnel.
Required Experience
- Ten years of legal experience relevant to the functions set out above with specialization in natural resources and development law in an international setting (such as a legal unit of an international organization or governmental institution, or in other forms of legal practice involving international dimensions).
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is essential.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law.
