Overview

The role supports the Africa and Middle East Regional Lead in mobilizing sustainable finance by engaging financial institutions in global principles and promoting sustainability in financial sector operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support regional coordination for MENA and SSA.
  • Assist in developing and implementing outreach and coordination plans.
  • Update and implement the regional work plan aligned with global objectives.
  • Identify key markets and focus activities for sustainable finance mobilization, with emphasis on Francophone Africa.
  • Maintain contact information for members, supporting institutions, and key stakeholders, and follow up on fee payments.
  • Facilitate relationships with UNEP FI members and increase banking and insurance membership.
  • Assist with regular communications with members via emails, conference calls, and in-person meetings.
  • Update the Africa & Middle East regional section on UNEP FI’s website.
  • Consult with members on regional activities and hold calls to advance sustainable finance priorities.
  • Raise awareness of sustainable finance and disseminate UNEP FI materials.
  • Support adoption and implementation of the Principles for Responsible Banking and Principles for Sustainable Insurance.
  • Engage members in the global work programme and sustainable finance network activities.
  • Promote uptake of UNEP FI guidance and tools.
  • Support the organization of regional roundtables and other UNEP FI events.
  • Assist in the preparation of missions by UNEP delegates.
  • Facilitate cross-regional network engagement.
  • Review translated materials and contribute to reporting on progress to donors/partners.
  • Draft concept notes/outlines highlighting objectives and incentives for engagement.
  • Deliver workshops on relevant topics to support members in integrating sustainability.
  • Ensure communications outputs reflect UN core values.
  • Support the implementation of UNEP FI’s 2026–2029 Social Action Plan.
Required Experience

At least 2 years’ experience of working with the financial services sector and/or sustainable finance is required. Project support and management experience in international organizations, NGOs or consultancies is required. Experience working on public-private sector partnerships, specifically in the sustainable finance field or in related field such as corporate responsibility is required. Event management and moderation/public speaking. Experience of writing/editing technical reports desirable.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in international relations, business, economics and finance, sustainable development or an environmental field is required. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree, provided the candidate has 4 years of related experience.

English is the working language of UNEP FI. Fluency in English and French is required for the position.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of Arabic and other United Nations languages is an asset.
