Overview
The Psychologist will provide psychosocial services for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) in accommodation facilities, assessing mental health, organizing support sessions, and collaborating with the scientific team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the mental health of UMC and write psychological evaluations.
- Organize and participate in group and one-on-one sessions for psychological support and development of activities and interventions.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of interventions to inform and raise awareness of children.
- Provide psychosocial support to children, including anxiety and anger management, conflict management, coping mechanisms, improving interpersonal relationships, and cultivating skills and talents.
- Refer children to primary or secondary medical care services if deemed necessary.
- Map existing national and humanitarian mental health and psychosocial services.
- Implement responsibilities of the reference person (Case Worker).
- In collaboration with the team, implement actions for the Individual Action Plan.
- Conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIA) or similar reports with the child's Guardian.
- Keep and update individual files of children, collecting medical, psychosocial, and educational history.
- Collect and monitor required beneficiaries’ documentation for donor purposes.
- Support the child in the Accommodation Center entry process, explain rules, and be their stable contact person.
- Support the child in integration into activities inside or outside the Shelter.
- Inform and train children against abuse and neglect, and how to react in dangerous situations.
- Plan and perform actions to prepare children for departure from the Accommodation Center.
- Escort unaccompanied children to appointments or activities.
- Distribute food, clothing, and personal hygiene kits if needed.
- Reinforce Accommodation Center rules.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Required Experience
Minimum one year of relevant experience desirable; Previous experience working with children considered as an asset.
Qualifications
University degree in Psychology from an accredited academic institution. Master’s degree in above field an advantage. License to practice the profession or/and certificate of registration with the relevant professional association. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
