Overview

This internship position is in the Field Operations Finance Division, supporting financial management, procedures, and analysis within an international organization. The role aims to supplement studies by providing professional experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Research and compile historical information relating to mandates, expenditure patterns, strategies, and economic/social context for budget submissions.
  • Ensure resource requirements align with applicable rules, regulations, and mandates.
  • Participate in budget preparation, including consolidation and presentation of programmatic and financial information.
  • Monitor the implementation of UN budgets.
  • Identify variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Generate financial information using databases and spreadsheets.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word are required. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance or related area. Applicants must be a student in the final university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
3-6 months
Work Modality
New York (while both in-person and remote work modalities accepted, in-person is preferred)
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
