The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP's The overall objective of the UNEP's Climate Change Division is to encourage decision-makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies to accelerate climate action. Through its Climate Change Division, UNEP: (i) provides cutting-edge research to support science-based decision-making on climate change, (ii) works across sectors to support the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future, (iii) ensures a just transition to a carbon-neutral world by empowering communities to adapt to changing climatic conditions; and (iv) develops sustainable mechanisms to unlock financing to help countries both mitigate and adapt to climate change.
