Overview
Provide legal advice and assistance to Afghan and Iraqi refugees and asylum seekers in Iran. Represent UNHCR in Dispute Settlement Committee sessions and report on refugee situations.
Tasks Summary
- Provide legal advice and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers
- Take action on behalf of beneficiaries in courts, tribunals or other adjudicatory instances
- Report on the situation of beneficiaries and implementation of Iranian authorities’ policies
- Report on the number, nature, and breakdown of cases dealt with
- Represent UNHCR in Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC) sessions and report on DSC activities
- Participate in community-based projects to provide legal services
- Intervene in cases of deportation judgments
- Hold legal awareness raising sessions for refugees
- Settle legal issues using all accessible legal means
- Inform beneficiaries that legal counselling is free of charge
- Participate in a network of lawyers dealing with beneficiary cases
- Refrain from requesting or receiving payments from beneficiaries
- Refrain from conduct that adversely reflects on UNHCR or the United Nations
- Participate in meetings and gatherings invited by UNHCR
- Share relevant information related to government policies and legislation
- Provide monthly and annual reports of activities
- Report fraud and sexual exploitation and abuse
- Maintain good working relationships with legal experts in BAFIA, the Judiciary, Bar Association and other legal entities
- Represent and act in accordance with UNHCR's perspective on women’s rights and child protection
Experience Requirements
Minimum 3 years of experience as a certified member of the Iranian Bar Association
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Law
