Overview

Support the implementation of livestock value chains in refugee settlements, focusing on strengthening smallholder poultry and piggery production and delivering climate-smart livestock management training.


Tasks Summary
  • Provide technical training to farmer groups on poultry and piggery production
  • Support implementation of livestock curriculum through Farmer Field Schools
  • Assist beneficiaries in establishing livestock units and applying good management practices
  • Support feed formulation using locally available materials, including Black Soldier Fly larvae
  • Provide follow-up mentoring and extension support to farmer groups
  • Ensure livestock production activities integrate climate-smart agriculture principles
  • Support input distribution through the e-voucher system
  • Collaborate with Entomologist to link Black Soldier Fly production with livestock feed systems
  • Assist in strengthening farmer groups under the Farmer Institutional Development model
  • Collect field data on livestock production, adoption rates, and value chain performance
  • Participate in joint supervision missions
  • Ensure livestock activities comply with environmental and social safeguards
  • Provide inputs for reports including geo-referenced photos and performance data

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in livestock production, poultry/piggery management or livestock extension
  • Experience training smallholder farmers in livestock husbandry, preferably in refugee hosting or rural settings
  • Practical knowledge of livestock housing, feeding, health management and smallholder livestock enterprise development
  • Experience with climate-smart livestock practices and integration of insect-based feed systems
  • Ability to work with farmer groups, Farmer Field Schools and community facilitators
  • Experience collecting livestock-related data and supporting field reporting
  • Knowledge of environmental safeguards and biosecurity measures

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Livestock Production, Veterinary Medicine or related field

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in written & spoken English

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of local languages spoken in refugee settlements is an asset
