Overview

The Safety and Security Assistant will support the implementation of the Security Management Plan and ensure staff safety during field missions.


Tasks Summary
  • Escort field missions in alignment with the Security Management Plan
  • Track, monitor, and log movements of all Oxfam-related field trips
  • Assist Security Officer in developing and updating Security Risk Assessments (SRA)
  • Deliver safety and security briefings
  • Prepare mission orders and submit Travel Authorizations (TA)
  • Maintain and update training records
  • Collaborate with Admin and Logistics teams to coordinate travel plans
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on security concerns
  • Conduct security assessments of field locations
  • Coordinate with Logistics to verify safety equipment
  • Manage security-related data and documentation
  • Update staff contact and emergency details
  • Prepare situational and ad-hoc security reports
  • Provide support for the implementation of the Security Management Plan
  • Assist in security emergency responses
  • Liaise with UN agencies and other stakeholders for security coordination
  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies
  • Prepare detailed security reports
  • Support in facilitating security-related training sessions
  • Assist in internal communication by issuing security advisories
  • Participate in information-sharing sessions
  • Engage in negotiations and representation with local authorities
  • Other duties as reasonably required

Experience Requirements
  • For Bachelor’s degree holders: Minimum 2 years of experience
  • For Higher Secondary degree holders: 6 years of relevant experience in security, movement protocols, incident reporting procedures, crisis management protocols, Travel Security Regulations
  • Security related roles (e.g., Security Liaison Associate, Safety and Security Assistant, Security Risk Assistant, Security Operations Assistant) within the humanitarian or development sector, at national levels
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in security management within a humanitarian or development organization, ideally in conflict or high-risk areas
  • Deep understanding of the local security, political, and cultural context in Syria
  • Proven ability to coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, NGOs, and security networks
  • Ability to work with security databases and archives
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments
  • Experience in coordinating safe field transportation and vehicle movements

Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s/Higher Secondary (completed) degree in security management, international relations, political science, disaster management, or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications in security management (desirable)
