Overview
The Assistant External Relations Officer supports UNHCR Armenia's external engagement and communication with various stakeholders to advance the protection agenda in the country. The role involves supporting the operation to project UNHCR as a reliable and trusted partner.
Tasks Summary
- - Assist management in dealing with challenges posed by the political context, UN and humanitarian reform, and institutional developments.
- - Assist in planning and organizing communications strategy to generate support from external partners.
- - Assist in dialogue with donors and embassies, providing accurate information through briefings and meetings.
- - Assist management in disseminating information on UNHCR's global funding situation and mobilizing funds for special projects.
- - Participate in inter-agency cooperation and communication strategies.
- - Assist in managing information flows within country operations.
- - Assist in drafting situation reports, briefing notes, fact sheets, press releases, and articles.
- - Assist in planning and organizing activities to promote understanding of UNHCR's activities.
- - Support management of media relations, including drafting responses and organizing briefings.
- - Organize press briefings for external parties.
- - Organize distribution of UNHCR publications and provision of materials.
- - Produce reports for donor agencies.
- - Support identification and management of risks and opportunities impacting the area of responsibility.
- - Perform other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- 1 year relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or no experience with Graduate degree; or no experience with Doctorate degree.
- Excellent knowledge of local institution, politics and culture.
- Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position (desirable).
- Expertise in Communications.
- Relevant continuative experience in the profession (such as journalism, PI/Comms media specialist, donor relations).
- Experience in Communications with various entities and organizations.
- Expertise in using social media for institutional purposes.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in the field, such as AI and other innovative tools and methods.
- Expertise in fundraising and donor relations.
- Experience in donor relations and fundraising.
- Knowledge of/familiarity with donor funding modalities and reporting requirements relevant to Armenia.
- Capability to work with the team to collect relevant information to draft project proposals and coordinate reporting.
- Ability to organize donors’ briefings, donors’ missions, design briefing materials, concise briefing notes, updates, talking points, visibility material.
- Solid understanding of UNHCR protection and solution mandate and familiarity with Global Compact on Refugees (GCR), Sustainable Responses approach, Nexus approach, within the SDG framework, and other relevant organizational processes and initiatives.
- Understanding of Armenia’s displacement and inclusion landscape.
- Ability to engage effectively with Armenian governmental counterparts regionally and centrally, with UN Agencies, CSOs, private sector and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualification Requirements
- Undergraduate degree; or Graduate degree; or Doctorate degree.
- Field(s) of Education: Political Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Journalism, Communication or other relevant field.
