Overview

Provide socio-economic analysis and recommendations related to the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission and UNOWAS mandate. The role involves reporting on regional situations and contributing to economic strategies and development programs.


Tasks Summary
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on the situation in Nigeria and Cameroon and their relationships with neighbors, focusing on impacts on the ICJ ruling and the West Africa sub-region.
  • Provide well-analyzed, concise information and recommendations to senior officials.
  • Lead or participate in the formulation, organization, and management of economic analysis programs and the development of economic strategies, policies, and actions.
  • Develop projects to promote joint economic ventures and cross-border cooperation.
  • Analyze and assess the implications of the ICJ decision, including protecting the rights of affected populations.
  • Assist in developing confidence-building measures and liaising with UN agencies, local authorities, and NGOs.
  • Identify and develop programs for new or emerging development issues of regional or global concern.
  • Conceive, plan, and manage expert group meetings, seminars, and consultations.
  • Finalize reports on socio-economic and development for submission to the CNMC and UNOWAS.
  • Identify and follow up on community development projects in Cameroon and Nigeria.
  • Participate in project evaluations, including data collection, tool design, implementation, data analysis, and qualitative assessments.
  • Produce reports documenting assistance to affected populations and development projects along the land boundary and in Bakassi.
  • Provide up-to-date information and recommendations on substantive economic matters and country or regional issues.
  • Maintain contacts with other UN sectors, international organizations, and governments on coordination and policy matters.
  • Arrange and participate in field missions and meetings of the Mixed Commission.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in economics research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economics principles in development program or related area.
  • Field experience is an asset.
  • Technical knowledge and demonstrable experience of logistics would be an advantage.

Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, Public administration, social science or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in one language (English or French), and working level of the other is required.

Contract Duration: 12 months
